The 10 Essentials is dedicated to providing quality wilderness travel gear to backpacking enthusiasts. We believe in the basics when it comes to selecting and using wilderness gear- don't take more than you need, keep it simple, and get the best value for the dollar spent. To that end we are committed to providing top quality products that will provide the essentials needed for wilderness adventure travel, whether it be an overnight hike, a week- long high adventure, or a multi-month thru hike.

The 10 Essentials endorses the systems approach to the ten essentials as noted in Mountaineering- The Freedom of the Hills but with our own slight twist to the essentials. The essentials will vary depending upon the type of wilderness activity, the weather, the location, etc. The following items represent a basic package, which will suffice in most situations. You may need to add to the list depending upon your specific circumstances. This list is not meant to be all inclusive of every item you may need. It only represents the essentials.
